Straight out of a 19th century novelth century, at the wheel of a car that starts with a crank, Joseph is a young 33-year-old doctor living in the Forez monts. In this lost country and yet in the heart of France, abandonment and isolation awaits all the old peasants he visits, day and night, and who are sometimes three times his age... Joseph is the last to come and hear from them, take their pulse, take care of them. Who else but him is still interested in those who bless the bread before cutting it, who speak the patois of their ancestors, who bury their suffering deep in their hearts?
